Conservative MP for South Leicestershire
Alberto has been the Member of Parliament for South Leicestershire since May 2015 and was re-elected at the July 2024 General Election.
I was fortunate to have been first elected as the UK Member of Parliament for South Leicestershire in May 2015, then re-elected in 2017 with the largest vote share in the constituency’s history, increasing this further when re-elected in December 2019. I was appointed by former Prime Minister Theresa May as the Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Scotland serving between 2017 and 2019 and then appointed by former Prime Minister Boris Johnson as the Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Attorney General, serving between 2020 and 2022.
I live with my family in the constituency and am proud to call South Leicestershire home. I opened the first ever dedicated Parliamentary office in Blaby serving the whole constituency with a satellite office in Broughton Astley. My office has helped resolve hundreds of issues raised by constituents; from housing queries to social care, from school places to benefit matters, from tax issues to visa problems. The office has served as a focal point for the constituents of South Leicestershire and ensured strong democratic ties between local people and me as their elected MP in Parliament, during the most recent parliament. Public service is at the heart of what my team and I do.
Raising local issues when in Parliament, has helped ensure that South Leicestershire has always had a strong and representative voice at the centre of power in our country. From challenging the Hinckley National Rail Freight Interchange proposals to supporting greater calls for fairer funding across Leicestershire. I am a passionate advocate for local South Leicestershire villages and communities in helping address the issues that matter to them.
I served on the House of Commons Justice Select Committee between 2015 and 2017 scrutinizing the work of the Ministry of Justice and undertook inquiries on aspects of the British criminal and civil justice systems.
Since 2019, I have served on the House of Commons Committee on Standards and the separate Committee of Privileges, undertaking inquiries and adjudicating some of the most high profile conduct and standards issues in British parliamentary history.
I am a lawyer by profession, qualified to practice as a solicitor in both England & Wales as well as Scotland.
