President’s Dinner with the Rt. Hon. Theresa May MP

After the last couple of years being dominated by Covid, it was great to get out and meet friends, old and new. The President’s Evening was a fantastic event, celebrating Grahame Berkeley’s many years as President of SLCA, following his recent retirement. As highlighted during the speeches, Grahame has been an active member of the Association for many years, holding most of the positions within the Executive and being a valued supporter of the Conservative party, both locally and nationally. Grahame was presented with a unique gift, an encaustic tile from the Palace of Westminster and also a personal letter from Boris Johnson.

The guest speaker for the evening was former Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Theresa May MP. Theresa gave an excellent speech and took the time to talk to people at each table. It was a real privilege to have a guest that has played such an important part in national politics in recent years. As a thank you Theresa was presented with some gifts, including a bottle of Penderyn Welsh Whisky (a particular favourite of hers) and a locally made birdbox.

The food was excellent, particularly the Rump of Lamb main course and the Trio of Desserts. The catering team did a fantastic job. The presentations and speeches were interspersed between the courses.  A bottle of House of Commons wine, signed by Theresa, was auctioned and with quite a few bidders vying to win, it went for a good price, raising valuable funds for the association.

Thanks go to Ruth Morrison and the team for another successful and well organised SLCA event. A wonderful evening was had by all.
