Blaby District Council : North Whetstone Ward
Mark Jackson and his family moved to Whetstone in 1995 from Glen Parva, living opposite Oliver Park.
Now in his 8th year as District Councillor, Mark has held a variety of Blaby District Council (BDC) appointments but his priority will always be the individual and collective best interests of the residents of Whetstone.
Mark is also in his 19th year of voluntary service as a Whetstone Parish Councillor and having served on 3 occasions as Chairman of the Council and currently serving as Deputy Chairman.
The priority has always been to preserve and enhance the parks, open spaces and cemetery provision held in public trust for village residents by the Parish Council. Notable successes have been the purchasing of ‘Back Lane’ fields to shield the village from over development likewise significantly limiting greenfield housing development off Springwell Lane. This work continues.
Mark’s background is service in the British Army; a full Regular Army career and full time service administering a local Army Reserve Unit in the rank of Captain.
Currently, he is the ‘Armed Forces Champion’ for BDC.
As full time Town Clerk of Earl Shilton, Mark understands how the 3 tiers of local government work and moreover knows how to help residents obtain the services they need.
Away from work and Council matters Mark is a founder member, Secretary and Treasurer of Whetstone Allotment Association (WAA) however, the real boss is Mark’s wife Eileen, the Founder Member and longtime Chairman of WAA!
